is it possible to share or export/backup my custom devices?

Yes Its Possible,

When you swipe the Fixture to the left, you can edit, copy, share and delete it :slight_smile:

I think “Share” in this case only submits it as a new fixture to the Photon devs. I’m also not seeing a way to do this.

No, this is not possible yet, you can only share it with all Photon users (after approval).
The feature you are requesting has been requested by many users, I have added this request to our to-do list.
