I’ve just bought Photon 2, and built a complete show using my mac for more convenience (it contains a lot of custom fixtures that took me many hours to create).
The final goal is to run the show on my iPad. So I’m able to transfer it on my iPad, but it doesn’t output any DMX signal, since the custom fixtures aren’t directly included in the project. The dmx connection on my iPad works (I tried to quickly create a custom fixture, and the output works).
So my whole question is: how to send or sync my custom devices from my mac to my iPad?
Even a « nerd » solution (like looking for hidden files on my mac) would work, but I haven’t figured out how
If you save the show and open it on the iPad it should work … even though your custom fixtures are not created on the iPad. I do this between two iPads. My custom fixtures were created and “exist” only on one of the iPads. But the dmx mapping transfers with the show.
Hi and welcome !
You can transfer your show from your Mac to your iPad, and the show file will include the fixtures used in that show, but they will not be added to your global fixture library on the iPad
When you export/import a show, Photon 2 embeds the fixtures inside that specific show so it can run on another device, but those fixtures remain local to the show and are not available as reusable entries in “My Custom Devices” on the iPad.
To actually export your custom fixtures themselves so they appear as proper devices in the iPad’s fixture library, they need to be shared with the Photon community. Once submitted, they go through an admin validation process before being published, so that all users can benefit from them.
If you want to proceed this way, please tell me whether you intend to export/share them, and send me the exact names of the fixtures in question (as they appear in “My Custom Devices”),
Thanks a lot Guys!
A took another look at it after you answers… And it now works. It’s weird cause I tried several times, but now it works all the time (the fixtures are indeed included in the project, event though they don’t show up in the list).
Thanks a lot for your help!
And, yes I’ll consider sharing those devices for other people
