I ran a quick search and didn’t find this topic yet, sorry if it is a duplicate. I am finding myself wanting to know the exact X and Y values as a 0-255 parameter which could also perhaps be an editable text box on the screen. The use case is this; sometimes I may wish to offset by a particular value for example the tilt for moving heads 1-4 should be 100, 125, 150, 175 respectively and that can be tedious to achieve with the current editor. I understand this value is in the DMX monitor, but hard to locate quickly and difficult for my finger on a graph to achieve the exact number I have in mind without having to check multiple times in the monitor. Thoughts?
We won’t be able to display the DMX parameters directly within the group, because it can contain different types of fixtures, each with its own DMX position values.
However, we could display and edit a textual parameter representing the position as a percentage value from 0 to 100 for both the vertical and horizontal axes.
Would that meet your needs?
Hi,
You may have possibly resolved your issue by now, and this is obviously an issue I think you will find that everyone has to deal with. What I do when generating a moving head device is configure all of the channels for the device in device fixture creator, and only have that one device in your show to test with. Still inside the device fixture creator, tack 2 or 4 more custom devices, depending if you also fine channel adjustments on the x and y, on the end after everything is configured. Make them sliders and name them the same as your x/y movements. Leave the values at the default of 255 and change the channels to match your x/y channels of your device. As you most likely know, that you will need to delete then add your device again in yourMapping Panel to see the updates in your show. You can then click on your group in light control, select the arrow on the Custom Controls tab where you can see the sliders. Here you can move the head using the sliders and look at the value in the DMX Monitor. The downside is that the sliders change to a percentage, which I find a disadvantage when the value in the DMX Monitor goes between 0 and 255. The bottom line is, that 1 percentage on the slider is 2.55 on the DMX Monitor. It is clear to say that plenty can be done to help in simplifying the user experience.
